This week my kid got a really nice surprise in the post, all the way from StickerKid, a custom name tag / sticker company. Having just started back at school and been given a billion books, uniform changes and stationery, these stickers could not have come at a better time!
Boy, it feels like an absolute eternity since I wrote about J’s eczema battle when he was an infant. Since we moved back to HK his skin had improved immeasurably, to the point where I could see he no longer had eczema and just suffered from the odd dry patch here and there. Then, just before the summer, we had one day on the beach in the sun, (and before anyone freaks out, yes, he had factor 70 on and was very covered up when playing in the sunshine) which seemed to trigger a terrible outbreak of angry, red eczema on his thighs, bum, back and arms. It’s hard to say if it was the sun, or the sunscreen itself, but my poor kid was in a lot of pain and his skin looked like it might not heal. Read more

After my wonderful, short, city break to Penang with my mother, I am rather in love with short city breaks. Now that I don’t get those lovely long summer holidays as a teacher any more, I have to make the best of public holidays and be a little more creative in stretching my time off.
I surprised my boy with a 3 day trip to Bangkok to visit his best friend. Our friends had relocated there just three months earlier, swapping idyllic Cheung Chau island life for frenetic city life. Read more
